I can't believe it. My mother is getting Sisterlocks.
Let me back up for a minute. Three years ago, when I decided I wanted to go natural. She talked about me. When I Sisterlocked two years ago, she talked about me. Her thing was the sheen that she thought locs wouldn't have. I started with about 3-4 inches of hair and about 2 in the back. So just picture the look. (I will be posting pictures of my locing day soon) I had no problem with it, but she talked about me. She did not like them at all.
On Sunday at church, my locs had a ton of curls from my braid-out roller set. She instantly complimented my hair and said, I want my hair like that. I told her that locs don't look this way overnight. I explained to her that it is a process/journey that you take to get them like mine. I reminded her about how she talked about me in the baby stage. She said yeah I know. She just said that I am use to hair being shiny, but your locs look really nice. I gave her my consultants card and told her that there are other natural styles that she could do and to just call for a consultation.
She went to the consultation and I called her to see how it went. She was still there, this was about 3-4 hours later. She was just hanging out at the shop. She watched the SL video. Talked with customers and she said that she was getting them. I was so excited, but I kept my cool because I was at work. I'm thinking, ok she saying this but will she really go through with her. I went on to ask if she explained different things to her like the retightenings, keeping the perm ends, etc. She said Yes. My consultant had everything covered. I called after I left work (again, I'm so excited on the inside) and asked Momma when she would be getting them. She replied, "Tomorrow". What?????? Tomorrow, I guess I really didn't take her all the way serious or thought that she would think it fully out first.
Needless to say, she is at the shop right now getting Sisterlocks!!!!!!!!
I had to call to make sure she didn't chicken out. Sure enough, she is there as I type getting SL'd. I am extremely excited. I'm not sure why, but I am. I'll try to post pictures over the weekend.
Happy Friday Everyone. Have a Wonderful Weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Girl and Jen are like, "very cool!!!!" Of course our mom is at our house right now and I had no problem reading your ENTIRE post out loud for the whole house to hear (hint hint)!!!!! So looking forward to hearing about your mom's locking session and all. Maybe this will inspire our mom. Maybe.
Thanks for sharing. Cheering you and your mom along!!!

Oh my - that's fantastic! Better late than never. Go Mom! I'm a mother and daughter SL team too. But my mom was a lot easier to convince. My mom got hers done 2 months after I had mine done.
Great news!
And who can blame her for saying "I want hair like that" when your hair looks so great?
Wow! That's exciting! It's great to see that your mother came around and is now starting her journey. I'm sure she was looking at how beautiful and healthy your hair was and just decided it was time to stop living the LYE. Congratulations to you both!
i might redo them and decrease the size..it might help.
Wow I would be excited too that great! I try to get every and anyone to get s/l's!! The "mommas" are usually the hardest to convert.
Thanks for the comment on my blog too!
Your locks are gorgeous!!
I love your hair..I can't wait till mine gets longer. I'm still in the baby phase mine are about 4 months old..but it seems so much longer. People sometimes question what they don't understand then once they do they find out it's not that bad lol. I will def be back to check out the locs
I'm so happy for you and your mother!!! I pray just for the day my mother will come to accept my locs let alone get them. You are blessed!
I completely understand your excitement for your mom. I would feel the same way. My mom is "thinking" about Sisterlocks. But like your mom, she likes the way mine look now (at 8 months). I don't know if she'll be happy with the beginning stage. So big ups to your mom! I'm really proud of her as I'm sure you are.
Wow, I really love when I hear stories like this! Congrats to your Mom for joining the Sisterlocks family! I think it's time for a Mother/Daughter Sisterlocks photo shoot! :-)
